Leaford Bearskin Retires

As some of you already know after 28 years as Chief of the Wvandotte Nation I have announced my retirement effective May 31, 2011. It is with great pride I have served my people all these years. As Chief I have met so many wonderful people over the years.

In accordance with the Constitution and Election Ordinance, in the event that there is a vacancy in the office of the Chief, the Second Chief shall immediately succeed the Chief. Second Chief Billy Friend will fulfill my term as Chief of the Wyandotte Nation effective June 1, 2011. I am leaving the office in excellent hands. Billy has done a superb job as Second Chief and will continue to do so as Chief.

All of our Board of Directors, Department Heads, and employees of the Wyandotte Nation have made our accomplishments possible and our tribal members have benefited from all our efforts.

Again and again I have said to our tribal members, tribal employees, and many people across the United States, I am the proudest Chief in the Indian World.
