The Wyandot Mission Church

UPPER SANDUSKY — The Wyandot Mission Church, East Church Street, one block east of Ohio 53, will be open for the summer months of June, July and August. Worship services will be 8 a.m. each Sunday beginning June 5.

The church is open 1 to 4 p.m. each Friday, Saturday and Sunday afternoon. Tours may be arranged by calling Jean Moon at 419-294-2510 or John Stewart United Methodist Church at 419-294-2867 or e-mail the church at secretary@ johnstewartumc.com.

The church was built in 1824, under the supervision of the Rev. James B. Finley.

The Wyandot Indians worshipped at the Mission Church until 1843. The building was restored in 1889 and designated a national historic shrine by the General Conference of the Methodist Church in 1960. An Ohio Historical marker has been placed at the Mission Church in celebration of Ohio’s bicentennial.
