Friends Missionary Jeremiah Hubbard, recorded that on January 30, 1884, he married John Crow, a Seneca Indian, and Mary Whitewing, a Wyandotte. He noted, “I am not a lover of chicken and dumplings, but I ate a full meal there. I used an interpreter for this ceremony,” he said. Uncle Jerry was known far and wide in those days as the “marrying Quaker preacher.”
Born in 1859, John Crow was listed on the 1898 Seneca Census as being age 39, with a daughter, Susan Crow – age 20, and a son, Jerry Crow – age 18.
