Brothers and Sisters

Brothers and Sisters  -yę- ‘be siblings’

There is no term in Wyandot that means just ‘brother’ or ‘sister’.  The verb -yę- means ‘be siblings’ and always takes a dual or a plural.  Prior to the nineteenth century, this term  included the children of one’s father’s brother and one’s mother’s sister.  The verb includes the diminutive aspect suffix which makes this a term of endearment when you are speaking to or about your siblings.
