The Wyandotte Nation will hold an opening ceremony for its new Heritage Acres Community Center at 2 p.m. Monday, April 14. A smoking ceremony will be performed by Wyandotte Nation Chief Billy Friend.
The Community Center, located at 14325 Porcupine Rd. in Wyandotte, Okla., features an activity center, senior center, kitchen and a saferoom that will provide a place for the community to go in adverse weather conditions. In addition, the Wyandotte Nation Housing Department has moved its offices into the center as well.
The Wyandotte Nation Tribal Police Department, which also serves as the municipal police department in Wyandotte, moved into the housing department’s previous office space at 64600 E. 145 Rd. along with the Tribal Court.
Office hours for the WNTPD are 8 a.m. to Noon and 1-4:30 p.m., Monday – Friday. The Police Department non-emergency phone number hasn’t changed, it is (918) 678-3100.
Chief Friend said the Community Center is just another step in the Tribe’s ongoing process of building and improving the community.
In addition to the Community Center, the Wyandotte Nation is also in the process of building a Splash Pad for the community and a Culture Center.
